Celebrating the 175th Anniversary of the Birth of James Clerk Maxwell

A Part of the IEEE MTT-S Distinguished Microwave Lecture Series

An Event Co-hosted by Sonnet Software Inc., CST and 2006 IMS Committee

James Clerk Maxwell stands shoulder to shoulder with Newton and Einstein, yet even those of us who have spent decades working with Maxwell's equations are almost totally unfamiliar with his life and times.

Tuesday, June 13, 2006 marks the 175th birth anniversary of James Clerk Maxwell, the founder of our field of electromagnetics. On that evening at this year's MTT-S IMS 2006 in San Francisco, Sonnet Software, Inc. in co-operation with Computer Simulation Technology (CST) and the 2006 IMS Committee will co-host an extraordinary event celebrating this momentous day in history.

Join us as we remember and recognize one of the most influential and far-reaching natural philosophers and get an understanding of James Maxwell from the viewpoint of a curious microwave engineer.  As part of the recognition, Dr James C Rautio, president and founder of Sonnet Software, Inc. and MTT-S Distinguished Microwave Lecturer will present the Life of James Clerk Maxwell. What was Maxwell like as an infant? What was the tragedy at eight years old that profoundly influenced his life? When did he publish his first papers, and what were they about? What did Maxwell have to do with the rings of Saturn? Why did he lose his job as a professor? What was his wife like? What is Maxwell's legacy to us? These questions and more will be answered during this presentation. Dr Rautio will explore and provide insight into Maxwell the person in order to add an extra dimension to those four simple equations we have studied ever since.  (Click here for an anecdotal summary on the Life of James Clerk Maxwell.)

Complimentary food, drinks and cake will be served courtesy of Sonnet Software Inc and CST. Everyone is welcome to attend.
