How do I add a Data File Component to my circuit?

Geometry Elements - Components

To add a Data File Component to your circuit, do the following:

  1. Place the metal in your circuit to which you wish to connect the terminals of your component.
Keep in mind that component ports must be placed on open polygon edges. You may have an unlimited number of ports on your component.

  2. Select Tools => Add Component => Data File from the main menu.
The Component Properties dialog box appears on your display.

  3. Enter the name of the data file which you wish to use as this component in the S, Y, or Z-Parameter text entry box.
You may directly edit the name or click on the Browse button to open a browse window which allows you to select a data file on your computer. When you specify this file, Sonnet automatically sets the ground node connection based on the data in the file.

  4. If you wish to override the automatic ground node connection, select the desired ground node connection from the droplist.
There are three different types of ground node connection for a data file component: Floating, Sonnet Box and Polygon Edge(s). For more information on ground node connections, click here.

  5. Enter the desired Label for the data file component.
This label appears in your view in the project editor and identifies this component. Each component name must be unique in the Sonnet project.

  6. Select the Terminal Width setting for your component from the drop list.
Terminal width is the electrical contact width of the component. There are three different settings for terminal width: Feedline Width, One Cell and User Defined. For more information on terminal widths, click here.

  7. If you wish to add reference planes or calibration lengths for the component, click on the Reference Planes tab.
For more information on reference planes or calibration lengths, see here.

  8. If you wish to specify a physical size for your component, click on the Physical Size tab.
The Physical size is not used for the analysis, but is available for display purposes. For more information on Physical Size, see here.

  9. When you have finished defining your settings, click on the OK button.
The Component Properties dialog box closes.

  10. Click on the polygon edges where you wish to place your component ports.
The terminals are added sequentially each time you click on a polygon edge. The next terminal to be added appears in the status bar at the bottom of the project window. When you move your mouse over a polygon edge, a blue triangle appears to show the placement of the port when you click. If you wish to align a component port with an existing one move your mouse until a dashed line with a blue "X" at the end of it appears. Clicking here will align the component port with the previously added one. If you place a port in the wrong location, hit the Backspace key to delete the placement. This will allow you to select another location for that terminal. When you have completed adding all the component ports, the schematic of the component appears in your display. This completes the procedure for adding a data file component
