Graph and Pattern Markers

Markers allow you to annotate your plots by identifying data points and curves, differences between two markers, lines and comments. These allow you to mark up your plot to more clearly evaluate your responses or to aid in a presentation of your response data. The appearance of the markers (color, font size, etc.) may be controlled in the Marker tab of the Graph Options dialog box.

To add a marker, you right-click on the desired location in your plot, then select Marker - <Marker type> from the pop-up menu which appears. To change the appearance of any markers in your plot, please see the Markers page of the Graph Options dialog box.

Data Marker: A data marker allows you to label a data point and have that label displayed in your graph. After selecting Add Marker - Data Marker from the right-click menu, click on the data point in your graph on which you wish to place a marker. You may drag the marker label to any position you desire. A line will connect the label to the data point symbol so that you may identify the point on the graph which is marked.

Curve Marker: A curve marker allows you to label a curve and have that label displayed in your graph. After selecting Add Marker - Curve Marker from the right-click menu, click on the curve in your graph on which you wish to place a marker. You may drag the marker label to any position you desire. A line will connect the label to the curve so that you may identify the data set on the graph which is marked.

VSWR Marker (Smith charts only): A VSWR marker allows you to place a constant VSWR circle on your Smith chart. After selecting Add Marker - VSWR Marker from the right click menu, a constant VSWR circle will appear in the location you clicked. Click and drag the circle to the desired location. You may also double-click and enter a VSWR value directly.

Circle Marker (Polar plots only): A circle marker allows you to place a constant circle on your polar plot. After selecting Add Marker - Circle Marker from the right-click menu, a circle will appear in the location you clicked. Click and drag the circle to the desired location. You may also double click the circle and enter a value directly.

Vertical Line Marker: A vertical line marker allows you to place a black dotted line in your graph that intersects the x-axis. After selecting Add Marker - Vertical Line Marker from the right-click menu, click on the location in your graph on which you wish to place a vertical line marker.You may drag the vertical line marker label to any position you desire. A line will connect the label to the vertical line marker.

Horizontal Line Marker: A horizontal line marker allows you to place a black dotted line in your graph that intersects the left or right y-axis. After selecting Add Marker - Horizontal Line Marker from the right-click menu, click on the location in your graph on which you wish to place a horizontal line marker. A label which contains the value at which the horizontal line is intersecting a y-axis appears and is attached to the horizontal line marker. You may drag the horizontal line marker label to any position you desire.

If both y-axes of the graph are being used, the horizontal line marker will default to the left y-axis. If you wish the horizontal marker to be associated with the right y-axis, you can right-click on the marker label and select "Switch Axis" from the pop-up menu which appears.

Line Segment Marker: A line segment marker allows you to define a finite line segment on your graph. The line segment may have any length as well as any orientation (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). To add a line segment marker to your graph, right click on the graph, and then select Add Marker - Line Segment Marker. After creating the line segment marker, you may select and move either end point to change the length and/or orientation. You may also select and then drag the whole marker to reposition it on the graph

Delta Marker: A delta marker allows you to display the difference between two data markers or a data marker and a horizontal or vertical marker line. After selecting Add Marker - Delta Marker from the right-click menu, click on the first marker label (data, horizontal line, or vertical line) and then click on the other data marker label. A label appears which is connected to both the markers you selected. The contents of the label are determined by the types of markers to which you are applying the delta marker. If the delta is between the line marker and a data marker, then only one value appears; the delta along that axis. If the delta is between two data markers, then the label displays two values, the delta on both the x-axis and y-axis. Note that data markers must be attached to the same axis in order to apply a delta marker. In other words, each data marker must be in curve groups that are both plotted on the same y-axis. This command is only enabled is at least two markers have been created in your plot.

Note Marker: A note marker allows you to place a comment on your graph. After selecting Add Marker - Note Marker from the right-click menu, click anywhere you wish in your graph. The Note Marker Properties dialog box appears on your display. Type your comment in the Text window.When you click on the OK button to close the dialog box, a note marker is added to your plot. You may drag the note marker to any position you desire.
