Insert - Dimension Parameter

Parent Previous Next

Dimension parameters are user defined circuit dimensions that allow the analysis engine to modify the circuit in order to perform parameter sweeps and optimization. Also, they provide a quick way for the user to change dimensions in the project editor. For example, the length of a transmission line can be assigned the variable '' L."

The initial value of the variable assigned to the dimension parameter is the length that appears in your circuit. This is the nominal value of the variable. If you change the nominal value then the circuit is redrawn with that length. You may also specify the value of a variable by using an equation.

There are three types of dimension parameters. Click on the links below for more information on each type.

Dimension Parameter Right-click Menu.

Once a dimension parameter has been added to your circuit, right-clicking on the dimension parameter produces a pop-up menu. This menu contains the following items:

Modify Point Set: Selecting this command from the pop-up menu allows you to select or unselect points in the adjustable point set for a dimension parameter using the normal editing commands of the project editor. Points in the adjustable point set are highlighted. If you eliminate the point from the point set, it is no longer highlighted. When you are finished editing the points, press the Enter key.

For details on selecting or unselecting points, see Editing Your Geometry.

Select Dependents: Selecting this command from the pop-up menu highlights any parameters which are dependent on the selected dimension parameter. For a discussion of dependence, see ''Dependent Parameters" in the Sonnet User's Guide. This command is equivalent to Select - Select Dependents.

Delete: Selecting this command from the pop-up menu deletes the dimension parameter from your circuit.

Parameter Properties: Selecting this command from the pop-up menu opens the Parameter Properties dialog box for this parameters.

For a detailed discussion of dimension parameters, see Dimension Parameters in the Sonnet User's Guide. For a tutorial on creating dimension parameters and performing a parameter sweep, please see the Parameter Sweep and Optimization Tutorial in the Sonnet User's Guide.
