Advanced Model Options dialog box

Parent Previous Next

Clicking on the Options button in the Models section of the main interface window opens the Advanced Model Options dialog box, which allows you to select which models you wish to create and to access the model options for each model type.

A symbol is created to represent your model. To setup your model symbol, you click on the Symbol button to open the Model Symbol Options dialog box which allows you to control the appearance of the symbol.

The model types and options are described below.

Touchstone S-Parameters

Selecting the Touchstone S-Parameters checkbox instructs the solver to produce an optional output file of S-parameters in the Touchstone format. The file has the extension “.snp” where n is the number of ports. A schematic and symbol view are also created and added to your Virtuoso cell for the model using the data in the output file. When you open the model for viewing, the schematic is displayed as well as file information. For details on viewing your model, see Models - Touchstone S-Parameters - Show View The model cell views are also listed in your library manager and may be accessed from there (Select Tools - Library Manager from the main menu in the CIW).

To set the parameters used to create the file, click on the Model Options button to the right of the checkbox to open the Touchstone S-Parameter Model Options dialog box.

Spectre S-Parameters

Selecting the Spectre S-Parameters checkbox instructs the solver to produce an optional output file of S-parameters in the Spectre format. The file has the extension “.dat." A schematic and symbol view are also created and added to your Virtuoso cell for the model using the data in the output file. When you open the model for viewing, the schematic is displayed as well as file information. For details on viewing your model, see Models  Spectre S-Parameters  Show View. The model cell views are also listed in your library manager and may be accessed from there (Select Tools - Library Manager from the main menu in the CIW).

To set the parameters used to create the file, click on the Model Options button  to the right of the checkbox to open the Spectre S-Parameter Options dialog box.

Broadband Spice Model

Selecting the Broadband Spice checkbox instructs the solver to produce an optional Broadband Spice output file in the Spectre format. The file has the extension “.scs." A schematic and symbol view are also created and added to your Virtuoso cell for the model using the data in the output file. When you open the model for viewing, the schematic is displayed as well as file information. For details on viewing your model, see Models  Broadband Spice  Show View. The model cell views are also listed in your library manager and may be accessed from there (Select Tools  Library Manager from the main menu in the CIW).

To set the parameters used to create the file, click on the Model Options button  to the right of the checkbox to open the Broadband Spice Options dialog box.

N-Coupled Line Model

Selecting the N-Coupled Line Model checkbox instructs the solver to produce an optional output file of an RLGC transmission line model in the Spectre format compatible with the mtline component. The file has the extension “.dat." A schematic and symbol view are also created and added to your Virtuoso cell for the model using the data in the output file. When you open the model for viewing, the schematic is displayed as well as file information. For details on viewing your model, see Models  N-Coupled Line  Show View. The model cell views are also listed in your library manager and may be accessed from there (Select Tools  Library Manager from the main menu in the CIW).

To set the parameters used to create the file, click on the Model Options button  to the right of the checkbox to open the N-Coupled Line Model Options dialog box.

Inductor Model

The Inductor Model Extractor (IME) feature allows you to extract an intuitive equivalent circuit model from the EM analysis of a spiral inductor. Selecting the Inductor Model checkbox instructs the solver to produce an optional output file of an Inductor in the Spectre format. The file has the extension “.scs”. A schematic is also created for the model using the data in the output file and added to your Virtuoso cell. When you open the model for viewing, the schematic is displayed as well as file information. For details on viewing your model, see Models  Inductor  Show View. The model cell views are also listed in your library manager and may be accessed from the Library Manager (Select Tools  Library Manager from the main menu in the CIW).

There are two topologies available for the Inductor model: the “Untapped” model and the “Center Tapped” model. Both topologies generate a simple, physical, fixed-topology circuit model.

To set the parameters used to create the file, click on the Model Options button  to the right of the checkbox to open the Inductor Model Options dialog box.
