You want a stand alone server

Parent Previous Next

Normally, you should install Sonnet on the license server and use the normal licensing setup for your type of license. However, if your are an experienced FLEXnet user and have other software packages already using FLEXnet as their license manager, you may want to avoid installing a vendor package on the server. It is possible to do this but be aware that the diagnostic program which is included in your software cannot be used. The diagnostic program is used to create a file of important data which Sonnet support personnel use to solve any problems you are having. To use a stand alone server, do the following:

  1. Install Sonnet software onto a client machine.
  2. For PC: From a client machine, copy the files " sonnetd.exe" and " lmgrd.exe" onto the license server. You may use your own "lmgrd.exe" if yours is a newer version than the one provided by Sonnet. These modules are located in <Sonnet Directory>/bin where <Sonnet Directory> is the directory in which Sonnet was installed. To open this folder, select the command Admin - Diagnostics - Explore Sonnet Install Folder from the main menu of the session tab. Please note that on Windows Vista, this folder is hidden by default, so you will need to use the above command to access the folder.

You can determine the version number of your " lmgrd.exe" module by running " lmgrd -v" from a command line window.
  3. Linux: From a client machine, copy the files " sonnetd" and " lmgrd" onto the license server. You may use your own " lmgrd" if it is a newer version than the one provided by Sonnet. These modules are located in "<Sonnet Directory>/bin/arch/<your arch>/bin" where <Sonnet Directory> is the directory in which Sonnet is installed and <your arch> is the platform on which you are running; for example, linux86. You can determine the version number of your " lmgrd" module by running " lmgrd -v" at a command prompt.
  4. Copy the license file, "sonnet.lic" sent to you by Sonnet as an attachment, to the license server. Depending on your exact setup you may need to edit this file. Refer to the other licensing scenarios for setup instructions.
  5. Windows and Linux: If your software is locked to a dongle, you may need to load in the dongle driver. For instructions on installing the driver for the dongle, please see Driver Installation Guide for FlexNet ID Dongles.
  6. Use standard FLEXnet procedures to start the license manager.
  7. Each user should specify the license server by using the "Remote" option in the License setup. Or if you wish to, you can set up a common "SONNETD_LICENSE_FILE" variable to point to 7852@server.
