Analysis Box Setup

Parent Previous Next

Sonnet’s analysis engine, em, performs the analysis in a six-sided metal box. The sides of the metal box are always lossless, but you may define the top and bottom covers as lossy metal. In order to prevent coupling with the box walls, we set a margin to increase the box size. The margin is also used to set the reference plane lengths for any ports. Sonnet’s analysis engine has an automatic de-embedding capability. When invoked, the solver removes the port discontinuity and a desired length of transmission line. The reference planes instruct the analysis engine as to the desired length of the transmission line to be removed. One reference plane length per box side may be specified but a single reference plane can be used for multiple parallel lines on the same box side.

For a discussion of the analysis box, see Sonnet Box.
