EM and Circuit Co-Simulation with the new Sonnet® v17 and Modelithics® Library™ 19.2, implementing a custom high-order filter design.

PDF download View Webinar Slides here

Abstract:Higher frequency and smaller designs are increasing microwave engineers’ need for numerical electromagnetics simulators in the design process. Ensure you’re well-equipped to simulation PCB and IC layouts with Sonnet v17 and to predict the response of lumped and distributed networks by using the Modelithics COMPLETE library of equivalent circuit models to represent your circuit’s SMD capacitors, inductors, and resistors.

In this webinar, the setup and simulation of a lumped-element band pass filter using Sonnet 17.52.1 with the Modelithics COMPLETE Library v19.2 is detailed. The filter is realized on microstrip, the effects of all interconnects and lines are taken into account by the EM simulation, and the parasitic effects of the lumped components are represented by the Modelithics’ circuit models. Resulting data is compared against measured data as well as against other commercial simulators.

The Impact of Final Plated Finishes on Insertion Loss for High Frequency PCB's

Presented by John Coonrod (Technical Marketing Manager, Rogers Corp.) and Brian Rautio (VP of Operations, Sonnet Software)
November 9th, 2017

Abstract: There are many different final plated finishes used in the PCB industry and each have their own concerns related to insertion loss. The impact of loss for an applied finish is generally dependent on frequency, circuit thickness and design configuration. The design considerations in this webinar will be microstrip transmission line circuits and grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) transmission line circuits. Loss vs. frequency data will be given for these circuit configurations, considering five different plated finishes commonly used in the PCB industry.

Sonnet Software is well-known for its user friendly interface and has the ability to model the impact of final plated finish influences on insertion loss with ease.

• Basic overview of insertion loss
• How final plated finish impacts insertion loss for microstrip and GCPW structures
• Illustration and discussion of measured results
• Description of a basic plated finish model in Sonnet
• Introduction to SonnetLab, the Sonnet/MATLAB scripting interface
• Demonstration of applying plating to a circuit with SonnetLab

Microstrip Cross-Coupled Filter Design

Presented by Daniel G. Swanson of SW Filter Design
August 2nd, 2017

Download and view the webinar recording.

This webinar will explore adding a cross-coupling to a microstrip combline filter. A capacitive cross-coupling will be added, which will produce a transmission zero on the low side of the passband. There are several ways to physically realize the desired cross-coupling. These options will be examined before choosing the final physical realization.

This material is suitable for filter designers, RF component designers, system engineers, experienced technicians and technical managers. Some previous experience with Method of Moments field-solvers would be helpful but is not required. Math skills above basic algebra are not required. The emphasis is on practical, proven procedures that are easy to follow rather than filter theory.
