Graph and Pattern Preferences
Selecting Edit > Preferences from the main menu of a Graph or Pattern tab opens the Edit Preferences dialog box. Changes you make to your preferences affect all applicable tabs, present and future.
General (Graph Tab Only)
Always check for updated files: When this checkbox is checked, Sonnet will periodically re-read all the files open in a graph. This has the same effect as manually selecting Graph > Refresh. This is useful if all the data is not yet generated when you first create your graph or if you change your circuit and re-simulate. Enter the desired time between automatic updates of files in the text entry box.
User Equation File: A user equation file contains one or more equations that can be used in Sonnet graphs. The equations in the file are appended to the built-in Sonnet measurements. You may create your own equation files using the Equation Editor. See User Equations Window for more details.
Curve Colors (2D Tabs Only)
Curve Colors preferences allow you to change the list of choices for the color of a curve. Whenever you add a new curve, the default color will be the next color in this list. Place colors that you like at the top of the list.
Add: Click the Add button to add a new color below the selected color. This opens a system-specific window that allows you to create custom colors.
Edit: Click the Edit button to replace the selected color with a new custom color. This opens a system-specific window that allows you to create custom colors. Also, you may edit the color by double-clicking on it.
Move: To change the order of the colors, select a color and click the Move Up or Move Down button.
Restore Curve Colors Defaults: Click this button to restore the list to the original default colors.
Any Curve Color changes you make will apply to all graph and 2D pattern tabs, present and future.
New Graph
Initial Graph Type: This section determines which type of graph or pattern will be opened when you first open a graph or pattern tab. See Graph and Pattern Templates for details on using template files. If you choose Template, you have two choices:
- Always use this template: Uses the specified template when a tab is first opened.
- Select from template folder: Opens a browse window in the Template Folder when a tab is first opened, allowing you to choose a template from your Template Folder or browse to any another location.
Template Folder: The template folder is the default location for your templates. A template file may be saved into or loaded from any folder, but Sonnet will first open the Template Folder when you save or load a template. You may then browse to any other location.
Default Graph Title: The Default Graph Title allows you to control the title of your Graph/Pattern when you first open a Graph/Pattern tab. It can either be the name of the first file you loaded, or you may set it to always be the same text each time.
You may restore the Sonnet default templates and template settings by clicking the Restore factory templates button. Clicking this button will copy the original factory templates into your template folder and will overwrite any changes you have made to them. Templates added by you will be unaffected. This is useful if you accidentally deleted one of the built-in templates and you wish to restore it.
Changes made in the New Graph pane accessed from a Graph tab do not affect Pattern tabs and vice versa.
Keyboard
Keyboard Preferences allow you to define keyboard commands for the type of tab you have open. To define a shortcut key for a menu command, you enter the desired key sequence in the Key text entry box for that command. If the key combination you enter is already in use by the software, you will receive a warning before the change is applied. You may choose to go ahead with the assignment by clicking the Remove and Reassign button, or click the Do Nothing button and no changes are made.
If you change a shortcut key for a command that is common among multiple tab types, the change will apply to all tab types.
To see a list of existing shortcuts, click the List Assigned Shortcuts button. A window appears listing all assigned keys.
You may export your shortcut keys to share with another user by clicking the Export button and saving a shortcut bindings file (.bnd). Click the Import button to import a shortcut bindings file.
Hints/Tips
Sonnet will occasionally pop up a hint, notice or assistant to help you with a particular feature. These pop-ups include a checkbox which allows you to prevent that hint, notice, or assistant from popping up in the future. For example, the Component Assistant window contains a checkbox labeled "Do not use this assistant again." If you select the checkbox, the Component Assistant will no longer automatically pop-up. If you wish to re-enable the pop-ups that you disabled, press the Reset All button.
Hover Over Tips
By default, pausing your cursor (sometimes called "hovering") over different objects in Sonnet causes a tooltip to appear which contains information about that object. The Hover Over Tips section allows you to disable some or all tooltips. Also, you may adjust the length of time before tooltips appear and the duration of time you would like them to be shown.
