Lossy Silicon

Lossy Silicon

A spiral inductor on lossy silicon. The substrate is 1 mm thick with a conductivity of 20 S/m. Most of the spiral metal is separated from the silicon by a thin (1 micron) insulating layer of SiO2. All EM effects, including eddy current effects in the silicon, and frequency-dependant metal loss are included in the analysis. This spiral was analyzed with Sonnet's patented conformal mesh technology to make analysis of the curved structure much more efficient.
