Manage Projects
Introduction
Sonnet provides many commands which may be used to manage Sonnet projects. You may access these commands from several different menus:
- Session Tab: The Manage Projects menu.
- Project Editor Tab: File > Manage Project. When using the Project Editor tab, these commands affect the project you have open.
- Job Queues Tab: The Manage Project menu.
Below is a complete list of functions within Manage Projects, however depending upon which approach you use not all functions may be available.
Copy, Move, Rename, Delete
The Copy, Move, Rename, and Delete commands are mostly self-explanatory.
Copy: Creates a copy of a project. You may directly edit the folder and project name for the copy of the project.
Move: Moves a project to a new location.
Rename: Renames a project.
Delete: Deletes a project.
Pack
The Pack command allows you to pack a project into a Sonnet archive file with the same base name as the source project file and the extension .zon. This archive file makes it easy to move projects from one computer system to another, or to send a project to Sonnet Tech Support. When packing a project, you may choose to include or exclude specific portions of your project:
Current Density: If you have run an analysis in which current density data was generated, enabling this checkbox ensures that the current density data is packed into the archive. If the checkbox is off, the current density data is not copied into the archive. This checkbox is provided because including current density data may increase the size of your archive significantly.
ABS Cache: If your project includes ABS cache data, then enabling this checkbox ensures that the cache data is packed into the archive. If the checkbox is off, the cache data is not copied into the archive. This checkbox is provided because including ABS Cache data may increase the size of your archive significantly. See ABS Caching Level for more details.
External Files: Enable this checkbox to include any external files in your archive file. This does not include optional output files, but only those files needed by the EM solver to run an analysis. An example would be a data file referenced by a Data File Component.
Additional Files: Clicking on the Additional Files button opens the Additional Files dialog box which allows you to include additional files in the Sonnet archive file. This is useful if you have packed graph files or text files which you wish to include with the project. All file types are allowed.
Unpack
The Unpack command unpacks and opens a packed project (*.zon) in the Project Editor.
Clean Data
The Clean Data command opens the Clean Project Data dialog box. This dialog box allows you to remove the analysis and log data stored in your project. You may remove all your data, or choose portions to delete.
All data: Choosing this option removes all analysis and log data stored in your project.
Delete only: This option allows you to selectively delete the current density data and/or the ABS cache data depending on which checkboxes are selected below. All other analysis and log data is left in the project.
Unlock
The Unlock command unlocks the project and allows you to write to or save your project.
When the EM solver analyzes your project, it "locks" the project to prevent changes to it during simulation. The EM solver will automatically unlock the project when it completes the analysis or you stop the analysis. If for some reason the Sonnet analysis is interrupted in such a way as to prevent a graceful exit, such as a hung program or a program crash, then the project will remain locked. In this case, you may manually unlock it by using this command.
It is important that you conclusively determine that the EM solver is not analyzing your project before you unlock the project. If you perform an unlock while the project is being analyzed, you may corrupt your analysis results.
Unmap Files
This command is available from the File > Manage Project menu of the Project Editor tab.
If a packed project contains files which were originally located above the project directory, those files are saved in the packed project. However, when the project is unpacked, the original location of those files may not exist so the Unpack command places the external files in the project's data folder by default. In this case, the Unmap External Files dialog box appears when the project is opened in Sonnet. This dialog box allows you to either accept the default mapping to the project's data folder or map the external files to a new location.
A list of external files appears in this dialog box. A drop list appears in the action column which allows you to chose where you want to save the external files. The options which appear in the drop list change depending on the conditions when you open the packed project.
Move to Project Folder: If you wish to place the external file in the project folder, select this action from the drop list.
Move to New Location: If you wish to enter a new location for the external file, enter the folder path name in the New location text entry box that appears below the list or click on Browse button to open a browse window that allows you to choose the new location. If you have multiple files that you wish to move to a new location, this option must be selected in the entry for each file. All external files using this option are moved to the location specified in the New location text entry box.
Use Existing Original File: If the external file is present in the same location from which it was packed, the project is set to use the existing file.
Move to Original Location (Overwrite): If the external file is present in the same location from which it was packed and you have write permissions, the packed external file is saved to the same path and overwrites the existing file.
Move to Original Location (see below): If the directory from which the external file was copied exists on your computer, but the file is not present in that directory, the external file is copied to that directory.
Once the location is specified, click the Proceed and Save Project button to complete the unpacking process and write the external files to the specified location.
Send to Sonnet
You use this command when you wish to send your project to Sonnet Support. This command first packs your project and then opens a web form to allow you to enter your contact information and any message you wish to be sent with the project. After following the instructions on the web form, the project and additional information will be sent to Sonnet Support. Please see the section above for an explanation of the options in this dialog box.
