System Requirements
Hardware Reccomendations
EM simulations can be classified as high performance computing tasks. Therefore, the CPU, RAM, and graphics performance of workstations used for CST applications should meet high requirements.
We strongly recommend that the chosen hardware meets the following requirements.
- The latest Intel® Xeon® processor (Currently 56xx series)
- 6-12 GB of RAM per processor/socket. Additional RAM may be required for very large circuit models.
- RAM modules (DDR3, RDIMM) supporting 1333 MHz. The memory modules need to be arranged in multiples of three (3 modules, 6 modules, etc.) per socket. It is preferred to use the least number of RAM modules to obtain the appropriate amount of memory. This is due to the fact that the maximum memory bandwidth depends on the number of RAM modules installed:
3 modules per socket -> max. bandwidth = 1333 MHz
6 modules per socket -> max. bandwidth = 1066 MHz
9 modules per socket -> max. bandwidth = 800 MHz
- 100% OpenGL compatible graphics card. Faster graphics cards will enhance performance of 3D modeling and post processing events.
- 500GB or greater Hard Disk capacity
Additional hardware requirements may apply for special acceleration features (GPU computing, MPI, etc.) offered by CST STUDIO SUITE™. Please contact your Sonnet Representative for additional information about these special requirements.
Minimum Hardware Requirements
- Intel Pentium, compatible AMD or greater processor (clock speed 1 GHz or higher). IBM PC Compatible, Multiple processors are supported.
- 1 GB of RAM
- 10 GB free disk space
- 100% OpenGL compatible graphics card
- DVD Drive
Minimum Software Requirements
- Windows XP , Vista and 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows Server 2003 and 2008 (32-bit and 64bit)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4 & 5 (32-bit and 64-bit) for Distributed Computing ONLY
- Adobe Reader version 7.0 or greater is required to view some of the product documentation
