Data File Elements

A Data File Element is a data file which is included in a Netlist Project (see Netlist Project Overview). The following is a list of the data files which are supported:

  • Touchstone (.snp) S,Y,Z-parameter files (from measurements or Sonnet generated)
  • Touchstone V2 (.ts) S,Y,Z-parameter files (from measurements or Sonnet generated)
  • MDIF (.mdf) S,Y,Z-parameter files generated by Sonnet
  • Spectre formatted N-Coupled Line (RLGC data) files generated by Sonnet

For details on using Sonnet to generate these files, see Output Files - Overview

When an S,Y,Z-parameter Data File Element is added to your network, its entry is listed as "S<n>P" where <n> is the number of ports. When an N-Coupled Line Data File Element is added to your network, its entry is listed as "RLGC".

The EM solver automatically interpolates between frequencies if there are any differences between the requested frequency points and those in the data files.

A simple example of connecting two Data File Elements together is the project att_cascade, which is included in the Att example. You may use the Example Browser to access this example. A schematic representation of the two-port circuit is shown below.
